During the visit, Hon. Chaltu Sani said that the urban development security was established with the financial support of the World Bank and the Ethiopian government. It is an effective project that has benefited 88 cities in the country and more importantly created employment opportunities for many women.
The ministry, along with other departments, is working to lift urban dwellers out of poverty and create job opportunities for others, he added, adding that he thanked the World Bank for its support.
World Bank Country Director for Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan and Sudan Mariam Salim said the project is one of 46 projects supported by the World Bank. It works with environmental development, youth, people with disabilities and the like in mind. The World Bank and the Ethiopian government will continue to support the project, he said.
The Mayor of Bishoftu Municipality, Atoo Alemayehu Asefa, said the municipality is working around the clock to ensure that 13,700 beneficiaries are included in the development safety net, including those who are self-employed.
